Salem received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Graphic department in 2003, a Master’s degree in 2008, and a Ph.D. degree in 2013, all from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University, Egypt. Salem worked as an Associate Professor of Graphic art Department at Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University. His work has been widely exhibited nationally and internationally including 9 solo exhibitions and over 70 unique, collective exhibitions and workshops.
It’s clear that printmaking is nothing but an art mediator who connects with the artist in a significant relationship, and there is no doubt that any creative process is never to be accomplished without direct contact between the artist and the art mediator which enables the artist to create through. and The Egyptian Artist Abdelsalam Salem is considered as one of the artists who are widely knowledgeable of all the basics and essentials in the art of printmaking, focusing on the aspects of surprise and experimenting, which enabled him to take printmaking art into another level in his home country, and shine some light on new styles and techniques which made his works special and unique.
He is working like any truthful artist, who wants his work of art to play a role in expressing what is going on politically and socially in his country; mostly these issues are like a dynamo to his work. And Arab revolutions inspired him, and he presented works of Installation art depending on printed copies. Also, his abstract artworks come from political, and social issues.
What is catchy about his print works is the huge ability to control and adapt with soft lines, as if he is drawing on a paper, in addition to the nature of planned, strong formation, and what makes it more special is showing emotional drawing through his printed works of art, and this is not so common to see in the world of printmaking.
